Alfa Laval Signs Contract with DAMEN Shipyards Gorinchem for various auxiliary systems for Portuguese Navy Multi-Purpose Ship
Damen Shipyards Gorinchem has contracted Alfa Laval Benelux to deliver High Speed Separator Modules, a Ballast Water Treatment System and the Gasked Plate Heat Exchangers for the Portuguese Navy.Multi-Purpose Ship
The new vessel, often referred to as a “drone aircraft carrier,” will be produced at DAMEN’s shipyard in Galați, Romania, with delivery scheduled for 2026. This state-of-the-art ship is designed to meet the specific requirements of the Portuguese Navy, featuring a versatile platform capable of supporting a wide range of missions, including oceanographic research, search and rescue, emergency aid, maritime security operations, and naval support.

The contracted high speed separator modules will clean the Marine Diesel Oil for the main engine, ensuring optimal performance and longevity while the Ballast Water Treatment System will clean ballast water from living organisms during ballasting or de-ballasting, contributing to global environmental protection. In addition, the renowned Alfa Laval gasket plate heat exchangers will use seawater to cool fresh water, forming an essential part of the central cooling system to manage all heat sources on this unique ship. The equipment provided by Alfa Laval Benelux is crucial for both the engine protection and environmental sustainability.

Additional Information: This new Multi-Purpose Ship will be equipped with laboratories, accommodation spaces, a flight deck measuring 94x11 meters, hangars for UAVs, a cargo deck of 650 square meters, and space for 12 containers. The 107-meter-long ship will also feature systems for operating unmanned drones and helicopters, enhancing its multifunctional capabilities.
